Student wins 20ft digital learning hub for school in national debate

Student wins 20ft digital learning hub for school in national debate Mohamed Turay, winner of the Educube Debate Competition and the Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh

Mohamed Turay, a student of Lorenzo Gorvie Memorial Secondary School, has emerged as the winner of the Educube Debate Competition during the Ministry of Communication, Technology, and Innovation’s Digital Government Summit 2025. His victory secured a fully equipped 20ft Educube Hub for his school in Kono District, a region where access to digital learning tools remains severely limited.

The Educube Hub—valued as a powerful learning accelerator for remote communities—comes with: 18 computers, Starlink internet, air conditioning, a printer and a television.

This compact, solar-powered learning space is designed to close the digital divide by bringing technology and STEM learning directly to areas often left out of national development conversations.

“I come from Kono. When I was going to school, we didn’t have access to a laptop. My team and I are giving back to the remote villages,” Mohamed said in his winning pitch. The prize doesn’t stop there—each of the top three finalists received a personal laptop to support their individual learning journeys. The Educube concept was pioneered by Monica Jackson, who shared the platform’s inspiring origin at the 2025 Sierra Leone Innovates Summit. The initiative aligns with government efforts to promote inclusive digital transformation through infrastructure and education.

By recognizing student voices in national discourse and backing them with transformative tools like the Educube, the Ministry, alongside partners - WorldLink and Media Tech - demonstrates a commitment to equity in education and digital access.
