NRA, UNDP partner to boost domestic revenue, strengthen tax reforms

The National Revenue Authority (NRA) recently had a strategic engagement with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Resident Representative Fredrick Ampiah, and his team to explore collaborative strategies for enhancing domestic revenue mobilization in Sierra Leone.
The discussions emphasized the urgent need for innovative tax reforms, robust taxpayer education initiatives, and strengthened compliance mechanisms to expand the country's fiscal space.
NRA Commissioner General Jeneba J. Bangura expressed appreciation to the UNDP for its continued support, particularly in procurement activities and efforts to integrate the informal sector into the tax net through public-private dialogues and support for the Block Management System (BMS).
She further appealed for UNDP assistance in capacity building for asset management and the provision of containerized tax offices at regional outstations to improve public access to tax services.
Additional areas identified for support included ensuring sustainable power supply for NRA ICT infrastructure, specialized training in tax administration, capacity building in climate finance and taxation of the blue economy, and conducting targeted research on revenue mobilization.
Both parties acknowledged that strengthening domestic revenue is critical to financing essential public services and driving sustainable economic growth.
The meeting concluded with a joint commitment to develop a tailored action plan that integrates international best practices, positioning Sierra Leone to better harness its resources. This renewed partnership signals a significant step towards sustainably financing the country's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and building a more resilient economy.
