Orange SL Celebrates Ethics and Compliance

Orange Sierra Leone (Orange SL) has celebrated its 12th Ethics and Compliance Day celebrations at Hill Station, Freetown.
Sekou Amadu Bah, Chief Executive Officer of the telecom company emphasized the significance of the occasion, stating that the celebration is a reminder of the company's unwavering commitment to ethical conduct and regulatory compliance. He highlighted that these values form the foundation of the company's trust, integrity, and positive corporate culture.
'In today's rapidly changing world, where new challenges and opportunities arise daily, the importance of ethics and compliance cannot be overstated. They are the pillars upon which we build trust and accountability. Ethics is not just about following laws; it's about doing what is right, even when no one is watching.
'We strive to create an environment where everyone feels empowered to speak up, share their concerns, and act in the best interest of our customers and community,' Bah stated.
He expressed gratitude to the Orange SL team for their dedication to upholding the company's standards and values, adding, 'Let's celebrate our achievements, but at the same time, renew our commitment to building a culture of integrity and accountability. Together, we are not just building a successful company; we are building a legacy of trust and integrity.'
Cheikh D. Mbaye, Orange SL's Chief Compliance Officer (CCO), spoke on the topic of conflict of interest, outlining the company's policies on the matter. Orange, he said has developed comprehensive guidelines on what is and isn't allowed in conflict-of-interest situations, ensuring that all stakeholders, whether vendors or clients, can maintain professional and transparent relationships with the company.
Mr Ibrahim Sorie addressed one of the key themes of the celebration, 'Compliance with the Laws,' touching on important ethical laws, including sexual offenses, harassment, environmental regulations, data protection, and labour laws. He specifically noted that the government has strengthened sexual offense laws with a 2021 Act mandating strict penalties for violators.
Sorie also highlighted Orange SL's positive impact on the country, from job creation to contributions to the national economy. James Tengbeh of the National Revenue Authority spoke on 'Every Detail Matters.' and emphasized the importance of leadership, risk assessment, standards, and controls in maintaining a successful organization.
